And…now, let’s chat about content calendars for business. And I have to say: content is my thing. I’ve spent years producing it both in my own business and for clients and I can tell you that, without a doubt, a content calendar can make or break your business success.
Truly – it’s that important.
What is a Content Calendar?
But before we jump into the reasons for that – first, we need to get clear on what a content calendar actually is.
Essentially a content calendar is the framework for how you are going to plan and share your product or service across all of your social media or content production channels. And these channels could include, like I said, social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc. – and other content platforms such as a blog, podcast, YouTube, etc. Those are the most likely channels you’ll be using to connect with potential clients and customers.
It’s important to note that EVERYTHING you share online or in print regarding your business is content. EVERY SINGLE THING.
For example, let’s say that you sell a weight loss product.
Your content calendar will include all of the things you plan to share about your weight loss product across all of your social media platforms.
Your content calendar will also include any articles regarding weight loss that you plan to write for your blog in order to help people see you as an authority and someone to work with.
It also might include any YouTube or video content you plan to share in order to show the great results your clients are getting by working with you.
Plan to run a sale or a special training with you? That’s all content as well.
Now, the actual physical or digital version of your content calendar can come in any form – you can use an app or a simple plan on a piece of paper, but the key is to have a content calendar in place in order to be successful.
So, now that we know what a content calendar is, let’s get into the three reasons a content calendar will help increase your business success.
Reason #1: A Content Calendar will Help You Plan Ahead for Long-Term Goals
One of my favorite parts of having a content calendar in place is knowing that I’m taking steps each day, month and quarter to achieve my big, long-term goals.
When I make my content calendar a priority – I take the time to plan out my strategy ahead of time so that my audience and client base sees only what helps them achieve their greatest goals – which, likewise, helps me achieve mine because suddenly – they want to work with me, engage my products, engage my services, and be involved in my business.
Without a content calendar, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day “need to post” or “need to create” mentality, but if the information you are conveying to your audience doesn’t help you achieve your goals – then your content creation is just busy work that isn’t producing results.

Trust me, you aren’t alone. And – as a busy mama like you, I know that neither of us has time to waste on things that aren’t moving the needle forward in our businesses. Right?
That’s where that effective content calendar comes into play. Just a quick glance should help you see whether the content you plan to share or produce is going to help you achieve your business goals. And, the best part is that you can scrap what’s not going to help before you take time to produce it – and focus on only creating the things that will make the biggest difference – for you and for your clients.
So, the first reason that a content calendar can help you achieve greater business success is because it will help you plan ahead for your long-term goals.
Reason #2: You Won’t Waste Time Recreating the Wheel for Each Platform
Creating content for any platform takes time, and when you don’t have much time to start with, you certainly don’t want to waste it. That’s another way a content calendar comes into play.
What do I mean by this? Well, let’s say that you utilize three content platforms: you have a podcast, you are active on Instagram, and you send a weekly email to your subscribers.
When you have a content calendar that you’ve carefully crafted to help you achieve your goals, you’ll know exactly what big piece of content you are addressing on your podcast each week. Then, because you have that piece of content in place and IT helps you achieve your goals by conveying a certain message or addressing a certain topic that your potential customers or clients are interested in, you can then use pieces of that podcast content or related content to share in your Instagram reels, stories, and feed posts. From there, you can send an email to your subscribers about your new blog post – going a little more in detail.
Let’s use this podcast episode as an example.
I’m talking about the 3 Reasons a Content Calendar Increases Business Success. That’s my big piece of what I like to call “authority” content. It’s also the overarching theme of this week’s content calendar.
From there, if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll notice that I’m talking about things specifically related to creating content this week. I’ll share tidbits related to these three things, as well as a few visuals that show how I put content creation into play in my own business. Anything I share is going to be directly related to helping my followers on Instagram get the success they are looking for in their Mama Businesses. I’m not expecting that they are going to jump over to my podcast -because the truth of the matter is that they are on the Instagram platform for Instagram content – not podcast content. So, I’m meeting them where they are. And, while I will have to create graphics or videos for Instagram, I’m not out searching for entirely new content. Instead, I’m using the same or very closely related content to increase my business’s impact.
Next, I’ll send an email to the people on my email list. This could just be a broadcast that shares that there’s a new podcast episode out and they can go listen to it, but I prefer to give them a little deeper insight into what’s coming their direction. So, I’ll share about the podcast, but typically they get a little deeper story or even an additional tip to keep in mind as they implement the podcast knowledge into their business.
In my case, once I have the authority piece of my weekly content put together, it’s very easy to pull pieces of it across all of the rest of my platforms. Without it, I’m left scrambling for what to say and when to say it – which, more often than not – means I don’t post at all.
So, the first reason that a content calendar can help you achieve greater business success is because it will help you plan ahead for your long-term goals and the second reason is that you won’t waste time recreating the wheel for each platform. Because, really – who has time to waste?
Reason #3: You’ll Show Up Consistently for Your Potential Clients and Customers
Consistency is key when it comes to running a successful business. I personally believe that when you show up consistently, you build trust with your followers more quickly. That trust leads to more sales and more revenue. So, consistency is important to prioritize. And – the great thing about a content calendar is that it helps us do just that.
Why? Because when you KNOW what you plan to do and WHEN you plan to do it – actually getting it done is the easy part.
Okay, that might sound a little confusing, but stick with me. In my case, when I know what the overarching theme of my week’s content calendar is, then I no longer have to worry about what to post. Better yet, when I take the time ahead of time to schedule out the things I want to say or even just a general topic to talk about on a Facebook live, then I’m much more apt to get that social media content out into the world. The same goes for my subscriber email. When I know what to say or at least the general idea of what to talk about, it’s easy to just get it done.
And I believe this is especially important for mama business owners, because interruptions can happen at any given time. When you already know what to post about, then you don’t have to worry about putting a lot of thought into getting it done. Sometimes, the only time I have to post to my Instagram feed is in the carpool lane during after school pickup. I promise you that I do not have the brain power by then to put together a piece of content that’s going to make a difference when it comes to helping my fellow mama business owners achieve their goals. I just don’t. But, because I’ve put the time in ahead of time to get my content calendar in place, I have a wealth of ideas to choose from and can easily formulate a post that resonates with my followers.
So, if you’ve ever found yourself in a state of not knowing what to say or when to say it, a content calendar might be just what you need.

And it might seem that way, but I’m a huge proponent of taking action, because action is where the dreams turn into the reality. ACTION: Create a Content Calendar for Your Mama Business
If you aren’t sure how to do this – that’s okay. I want you to start by listing the places you share content to on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis. And…if you aren’t sharing anything at this point, then what places do you intend to share to? Then, make a basic outline for one week. You can include your authority content, your social media content, and your subscriber content. What will you post and when?
